About the Artist
Steve R. Garner began his career as an undergraduate and graduate student at the University of North Dakota.  There he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree, Master of Arts degree in art education, and his Master of Fine Arts degree in studio arts.  He studied under nationally respected artists and teachers such as professors Robert A. Nelson, Brian Paulsen, Jackie McElroy Edwards, and Paul Fundingsland.

His teachers as well as historical influences like Rene Magritte, the Belgian painter and one of the early Masters of Surrealism, influenced him.  Other favorite artists include Mr. Ronald Roller Wilson and fellow classmate Christopher Langseth.  During his graduate studies Garner worked predominately in Serigraphy and tends to carry that thinking process with him today in his painting techniques.

Garner has taught at both the college and secondary levels and currently is an art instructor at J. L. Mann Academy in Greenville, South Carolina.  He has exhibited his work internationally and has won many national awards for his work.  He is a member of the National Art Education Association, South Carolina Watercolor Society, National Watercolor Society, the American Watercolor Society and the Northwest Watercolor Society.  His recent work includes his award-winning series "Trout in the Trees."
