Steve R. Garner began his career as an undergraduate and graduate student at the University of North Dakota. There he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree, Master of Arts degree in art education, and his Master of Fine Arts degree in studio arts. He studied under nationally respected artists and teachers such as professors Robert A. Nelson, Brian Paulsen, Jackie McElroy Edwards, and Paul Fundingsland.
His teachers as well as historical influences like Rene Magritte, the Belgian painter and one of the early Masters of Surrealism, influenced him. Other favorite artists include Mr. Ronald Roller Wilson and fellow classmate Christopher Langseth. During his graduate studies Garner worked predominately in Serigraphy and tends to carry that thinking process with him today in his painting techniques.
Garner has taught at both the college and secondary levels. Retired in 2013 as Head of the Fine Arts Department at J. L. Mann High School in Greenville, South Carolina. He spends his time in the studio each day.
He has exhibited his work internationally and has won many national awards for his work. He is a member of the National Art Education Association, South Carolina Watercolor Society, National Watercolor Society, the American Watercolor Society and the Northwest Watercolor Society.

Steve: "I've been a working artist and Art Educator for the past thirty years. Retired from Art Education in the spring of 2013. My artwork stems from ideas that are worked up as the concept grows. They often end up being an event that is far from realistic, but hopefully interesting."
